I'm bypassing the automatic hate (I drive manual, I've driven automatic also. It's good for city drive). I really dislike the gear stick in US automatic cars though. It looks like an old school TNT detonator. It's not a plane, it's a car. Damn you Americans and your complex! I've seen that car manufacturers(mostly European) have shifted(haha) away from that lately though. There are a bunch of cars with minimal, good looking automatic sticks.

Just re-build your seat to be easily removed by sliding it forward without holding down the lever to slide the rail. Then you can just lift out the seat whenever something falls down with just a "small" impact on your security in a car crash.
